Hyperactivity, concentration difficulties and impulsiveness improve during seven weeks’ treatment with valerian root and lemon balm extracts in primary school children.
Jürgen Gromball, Frank Beschorner, Christian Wantzen, Ute Paulsend,
Welcome, welcome, welcome! Today we are going to talk about a natural alternative to sleeping pills. This is a great thing to write about for a number of reasons. The main one being the fact that memories get consolidated when we sleep, so good quality sleep is very important for our overall cognitive performance.
The study by Gromball et al showed beneficial impact of valerian root and lemon balm combination on concentration, hyperactivity, and impulsiveness. 169 school children who suffered from hyperactivity and concentration difficulties were treated with 640 mg valerian root and 320 mg lemon balm. One of the biggest advantages of this blend is the excellent tolerability, without a sedative side effect of pharmaceutical drugs like benzodiazepines.
The percentage of children who always struggled to fall asleep dropped from 37.6% down to 9.1% at the final examination (wow!) with a percentage of children who experienced difficulty sleeping through the night down from 19.4% to 6.1% (wow, again!).
The poor ability to focus decreased (yet again) from 75% to 14%, hyperactivity from 61% to 13%, and impulsiveness from 59% to 22%. Overall, amazing results, so if you experience any of the problems listed above (or suffer from poor sleep quality) you should try valerian root and lemon balm combination. Who knows, maybe it will change your life.
Herbal products tend to have less side effects, as they are natural compounds, but they can also take longer time to see the desired effect, so a question for you is: would you rather take a supplement for a couple of weeks and have no side effects or take a more potent drug for days/weeks and (possibly) experience side effects?
